Dining room and living room …our winter wonderland <\/em><\/p>\n I like to theme each room for decorating at Christmas. This room is a combo living and dining room. The theme for this room is, “Winter Wonderland.” I’ve chosen a palette that matches the room one of blues, grays, whites, creams and silvers. This room is so peaceful and cozy, my husband and I love to sit near the fire and read or play games.<\/p>\n Nativity shelf <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n As you come in our front door, you are greeted by this shelf with all my nativity sets. My mom is an avid painter and made many of these pieces for me. I wanted this to be front and center because the birth of Jesus is the heart of Christmas.<\/p>\n This is a close up of one of the shelves. My mom painted each nativity figure.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n She may be my mom, but I think she is an incredible painter…she did these from patterns, but each piece has so much detail<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n My Aunt Dody stitched this…and I absolutely love the message and the work <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n A close up of the top shelves <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n To the right of the front door is the Christmas tree. I went with a snow theme. It’s decked in silvers, whites, and blues just like the house. I added snow picks and pine cones to have it look like it has just come in from a snowy day outside.<\/p>\n <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n Our living room tree <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n Our tree at night <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n Next is the bar area, which I often theme. This Christmas I did it in an Alice in Winter Wonderland theme. I’ve served Wassail Punch there. Christmas Day it will have various sodas and eggnog. On New Years, I’m going to try to make a special cocktail with our new martini shaker.<\/p>\n Sources: BAR lit letters: Hobby Lobby. Beaded Snowman Garland: An Etsy shop called The Pink Hutch. Noel sign and striped straws: Target. <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n Beyond the bar <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n At night <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n After the bar, comes the fireplace then the coffee station. In front of the fireplace is the couch with a coffee table in front of it. Next to the bar a comfy chair to cuddle up in and read.<\/p>\n Close up of coffee table <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n This corner is quite cozy<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n <\/em><\/strong>We’ve now reached the dining room. The coffee station begins the room. Next to it is a window and below that a small bench I often have bears on, but this season houses a jolly set of snowmen and Alice figures.<\/p>\n This coffee\/cocoa station is themed Alice in Winter Wonderland. It’s already for cups to be served. Drawers containing coffee, cocoa and sugar are labeled for easy finding ( drawers from Pottery Barn Outlet). In front of drawers, a white rabbit bowl ( from Pottery Barn…all white rabbit dishes are from there) filled with marshmallows, a cute Alice themed basket ( Home Goods) has peppermint sticks, and a white rabbit carting some cocoa.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n Close up of Coffee station<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n Bench near window <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n On the next wall, is the tall hutch. It has a matching swag and garland like the fireplace mantel. I got all of those at a local shop called Canterbury Gardens. <\/em><\/strong>I brought the angel theme over to the dining room by adding one in the little shelf on this hutch. The little snowmen on the hutch are plaques my mom and I designed ( I change them out seasonally).<\/p>\n A few photos of the hutch both at a distance and close up.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n My dining room table is used for several functions during the holidays. We often plays games and cards there. I’ve hosted a tea party, too. We love to have our holidays meals there. Most of the time, I do a somewhat uncomplicated centerpiece that I can move easily. This year, I went for it when I hosted the tea and did a whimsical Alice in Winter Wonderland vignette. I also did a special table setting for our 35 th anniversary. The last piece in the room is our long buffet. My husband built this using IKEA cupboards and adding the middle shelf that bridges the wall cupboards. He also did all the tile work. This is wonderful to put foods on for holiday meals. We dressed it up with some village pieces and a snowy tree.
